How to Keep your Home Safe this Christmas

How to Keep your Home Safe this Christmas

As we come closer to the month of December and that most prosperous time of the year, we must remember 1 thing: Burglars.
Thieves, burglars, and opportunists alike will all be prowling around now. Why? Because Christmas is the time for giving, and Christmas shopping.
Read on, to find out how NW Door and Window Repairs recommend you keep your home safe this Christmas.
Keep your Home Safe

Have you started your Christmas shopping?

As many of you have probably started your Christmas shopping, the new goods which you have will almost certainly be hidden in the house somewhere. And the burglars know this.
We know how house burglary has a huge increase at this time of year, as the damaged which is caused is what keeps us at NW Door and Window Repairs busy. With the calls already coming in for repairs due to break-ins, we have decided to put this message out now, to help you keep your home safe.

So what can you do to keep safe?

Before you leave your home, please make sure you shut and lock all of your windows and doors, any gates which lead to your gardens, and lock up all ladders or any other equipment that could be used to aid a burglar, and be vigilant to people who you wouldn't usually see on your street.
Below, you will find a list of locking devices which can easily be fitted by a D.I.Y'er, or please give NW Window Repairs a call. We can install the equipment for you, and pass on the best options for you.

Locking Equipment for Windows and Doors

Vertical Sliding Sash Windows:
Use duel sash screws with a key. They want to be fitted so the window will only open around 100mm to 150mm only.
Casement Windows:
Use sash jammers with key locking.
French Doors:
Use putlocks over the handles of the door.
Sliding Doors:
Invest in push-pin locks. I would advise two - 1 for the top, and one for the bottom of the door.
You should also make sure that all of your handles are lockable to help aid security.

Stay Safe

All of these things can be easily fitted, and can be done by the most novice of D.I.Yer's. We would recommend that you purchase any of these items from Windowparts, for a low cost but high quality product.

We would also highly recommend that you have your windows serviced to make sure everything is locking correctly.

Ultimately, we hope that this advice will help keep your home safe this Christmas.
Be safe, lock all windows and doors, and from all of us at NW Door and Window Repairs,
Merry Christmas, and a Happy and Safe New Year!
